The future has arrived. Auracast is a version of Bluetooth but with a big difference. Low Energy or Classic Bluetooth transmits from point to point, from your phone to your hearing aids for example. But Auracast, as the name suggests, broadcasts to any number of devices something like a radio.
That means when you sit in a theatre equipped with Auracast the audio is streamed directly to your hearing aids and to the hearing aids of anyone else in the audience. It essentially replaces hearing loops, wifi and infrared systems.
The low latency and high quality sound are a vast improvement. One caveat, your hearing aids must be able to receive Auracast. Most of the newer hearing aids now on the market can. But with older models you are probably out of luck.
Auracast is still rolling out. That’s why hearingtracker.com sent me to Korea and a small nightclub in Seoul to experience it first hand. Here’s what I found.
